Lee Ann was amazing. Not only did she produce a very detailed index for my book, but she provided excellent proofreading of the manuscript. I highly recommend her, and will be passing her name on to colleagues who are in need of an indexer/proofreader.
Good editors clean up your manuscript. Great editors go a step further and help you see the book you intended to write. From her work on my book, I know Lee Ann Pingel is a great editor.
As a new author (and the typical “poor grad student”), I was a little nervous about sending my manuscript to an editor who came highly recommended. Any fears were quickly laid to rest. Lee Ann is not only a fast and reliable editor, she’s also very kind and considerate. She helped me transform my manuscript into a work I am proud to call my own, fixing mistakes in grammar and formatting, as well as offering insightful suggestions to help strengthen my novel as a whole. It was an absolute pleasure working with Lee Ann, and I don’t think I will publish anything without seeking her help first.
I highly recommend Lee Ann. She is very encouraging; but also has the courage to criticize constructively, which is what I wanted.
I consider myself quite fortunate to have found Lee Ann in time to help with so many of the editing tasks I was facing, including cleaning up prose, fact checking, and chasing down citations. It is no exaggeration to say that Lee Ann not only made the completion of my book possible, it was a much better book in the end.
In 2016, after four years of writing and rewriting, I typed "The End" to my coming-of-age novel, Girl in a Foxhole. I was so immersed in it that I, wisely, looked for a cool, professional eye to spot plot and character glitches and to “doctor” goofs in punctuation, spelling, syntax, etc. Lucky me! I found Lee Ann Pingel, an editor who knows her stuff and is easy to work with. Beyond my expectations, she researched the training of AME pastors and assisted in fine-tuning African-American dialect of the 1940s. She offered just the right support to take me to the finish line.
Lee Ann did an excellent job editing my manuscript. It was a real bonus that she was able to proofread the transliterated titles of the many Russian-language sources that appeared in my footnotes. This was a tedious and time-consuming but absolutely necessary task, and I was delighted to be able to rely on her to do it. The final month of preparing a manuscript is a stressful time, and it was great to have someone so efficient and professional providing assistance.
After working on the Best Practices Manual for the U. S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) until I couldn't read it any more, Lee Ann edited it so that it read smoothly. She suggested words and phrases that cleared up "muddy" ideas and caught some inconsistencies of voice and statements. Because of her help, those of us who worked on the grant were proud to submit it to IMLS. We know its purpose of helping other museums and libraries in similar projects will be better served.
Lee Ann engages with authors and their manuscripts on a meaningful and substantial level. She invests herself in projects and has an amazing eye for detail. Her help is invaluable.
I have some experience of working with editors. Lee Ann’s work is outstanding and excellent. I would like to highlight her efficiency. After couples of hours you will get a beautiful manuscript from her. Meanwhile, her comments and suggestions left in the manuscript are helpful for authors to let you think about if someone with little background in your field read your paper, what questions and concerns they will have. That makes the editing much more valuable and meaningful.
Lee Ann changed my thoughts on my life into a story. All of my family and many of my friends who are retired educators and professionals commented on the excellent quality of the writing. She worked very closely with me and gave me a wonderful gift to pass down to my children and grandchildren.
